Protecting our environment has become a major issue over recent years, and the various hazards that can pose a risk to the environment have become a major concern to both the public and authorities. Environmental laws exist to ensure that there is minimal risk the environment, and over the years a number of important laws and regulations have been developed with regards to the environment. In American, the Environmental Protection Agency exists to ensure adherence to these environmental laws, and to take the necessary action in the event that these laws are violated.

In previous years, environmental laws in America and in many other countries were slack to say the least. However, as more and more information began to come to light about the damage we were doing to our environment through increased pollutions, a number of environmental laws came into place. Over the years these laws have become more stringent and more comprehensive, and the aim of these laws is to protect both the environment and the health of those within the environment.

There are now many major environmental laws in place, and for those found violating these laws the punishment can be harsh to say the least. In fact, violation of these laws can result in hefty fines and even a prison term. Some of the major environmental laws we now have in place in America include the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Pollution Prevention Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act, and the Oil Pollution Act.

These environmental laws are in place to not only protect our environment from further damage from pollution and contamination, but also to protect the health of the people, which can suffer as a result of this environmental pollution. The repercussions of violating these acts can be serious, as causing contamination can affect not only the environment but also those within it, and this is why the punishment for violation of these environmental laws is often so harsh.
